Margomkali is a ritual folk art of the Syrian Christians of Kottayam and Thrissur districts. Margomkali is performed by a group of women, a group containing 12 dancers form a circle around the “nilavilakku “ (lamp) , they wear white dhotis . In this dance form the lamp represents the Christ and performers represent his disciples. They usually sing songs about the life oe St. Thomas the apostle. . Today Margomkali is only performed as a stage item by women."
