the land of lush green tea plantations, lofty peaks and gushing streams, lies in the Peermade village of Idukki district, 3500 feet above the sea level. Thekkady
is the location of the Periyar National Park, which is an important tourist attraction in the Kerala state of India. Situated close to the Kerala -Tamil Nadu border town of Kumily, it is located about 257 km (160 miles) from Trivandrum. The sanctuary is famous for its dense evergreen, semi-evergreen, moist deciduous forests and savanna grass lands. It is home to herds of elephants, sambar, tigers, gaur, lion-tailed Macaques and Nilgiri Langurs.
The Periyar Widlife sanctuary is spread across 777 kmē (300 sq. miles), of which 360 kmē (139 sq. miles) is thick evergreen forest. The Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary was declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978. The splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar River adds to the charm of the park. The greatest attraction of Periyar are the herds of wild elephants that come down to play in the lake.Thekkady is considered a heaven for natural spices such as black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon and clove.
Peerumedu
is a tiny Indian hill station, high in the Western Ghats in Kerala, India. It is located 85 km east of Kottayam on the way to Thekkady. The landscape of Peermade includes spectacular waterfalls, open grass lands and pine forests.
Peermade is named after the Sufi saint, Peer Mohammed. Peermade literally means the hill of the Peer.Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the largest wildlife reserves in India, is 43 km away. It has herds of elephants and other wild life as well as wonderful lakes.
Munnar
is a town located in Kerala state in the southern Western Ghats in South India. The name is often used to refer to the whole tourist area of Idukki District of which the town forms a part. Munnar panchayat of Devikulam block is the largest in the district with an area of 557 kmē. The name of Munnar is believed to be derived from the Malayalam words Muunu (three) and aaru (river), referring to the town's strategic location at the confluence of the Muthirappuzha, Chanduvarai and Kundali rivers. The area is surrounded by vast jungles and remains wet and cold during most of the year. The Mattupetty Dam is nearby. The people of Munnar share the culture and traditions of Kerala and their Tamil neighbours.
