KASARAGOD is one of the districts of the Indias state of Kerala. Kasragod district was organised as a separate district, on 24 May1985. It forms the northernmost end of Kerala. To its south lies Kannur District and to the north, Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka state. All along its west it is walled by the Western Ghats while along the east the Arabian Sea borders it. The district, covering an area of around 1992 sq km, has a population (2001 census) of 1,203,342, and has two taluks, namely, Kasaragod and Hosdurg both being municipalities as well seventy-five villages and thirty-nine panchayats. The district is further sub-divided into four administrative segments called development blocks, namely, Manjeshwar, Kasargod, Kanhangad, and Nileshwar. Like other districts of Kerala, Kasaragod district too has a high literacy rate, around 85.17%. The Malayalam spoken here has influences from Tulu, Kannada, Urdu, Konkani etc. People from southern Kerala generally find it difficult to understand the Malayalam spoken here.Kasaragod district has Arabian sea to the west and Western ghats to the east.

Bakel Fort



Bekal Fort is a small place located on the shores of the Arabian Sea in the Pallikare village in Kasargod district of Kerala state, South India. Bekal Fort is a major tourist attraction in the state. It is situated around 15 km. to south of Kasargod town. According to Bekal Rama Nayak, a local Kannada writer, the word Bekal is derived from the word Baliakulam, meaning Big Pond. The term Baliakulam got corrupted as Bekulam and later as Bekal. Spreading over 40 acres, Bekal Fort is the largest and best preserved fort in the State. An alluring view of the sea shore as well as its exhilarating natural beauty attracts tourists and nature-lovers. Bekal Fort is fast emerging as an international tourist centre.
Kottancheri Hills is a part of the Western Ghats in Kasaragod District of Kerala, south India. This is an area of rain forest near Konnakkad 30 km north- east of Kanhangad. It includes a picnic centre and is ideal for trekking. Talakaveri in the Brahmagiri mountain range of Kodagu is nearby.
Kumbala locally spelt as Kumble or Kumbala, is a small town located 14 km north of Kasaragod town in Kasaragod District, Kerala. It is located on the mouth of a lagoon formed by the Shiriya river.
Kumbala was once the seat of the Kumbala Kings, who ruled the southern part of Tuluva Kingdom. It was a small port in ancient times. In the 16th century A.D. (1514), Duarte Borbosa, the Portuguese traveller, visited Kumbala and he had recorded that he had found people exporting rice to the Maldives in exchange of coir[1] When Tippu Sultan captured Mangalore, the Kumble Raja fled to Thalassery; but he returned in 1799 and after an unsuccessful fight for independence, submitted to the British Empire and accepted a small pension of Rs. 11,788 per annum in 1804.[2] Parthishubha, the great Yakshagana exponent, known as Father of Yakshagana was born here in the 18th century.
Malik Dinar Mosque is a historical mosque in Kasargode district of Kerala state, south India. Over the years, Kasargod acquired the considerable importance as a centre of Islam on the west coast. It is the site of one of the mosques believed to have been founded by Malik Ibn Dinar. The mosque, Juma Masjid, which is one of the best kept and most attractive in the district, is located at Thalangara. It contains the grave of Malik Ibn Mohammed, one of the descendants of Malik Ibn Dinar and the place is sacred to Muslims. Another notable mosque, in Kasaragod is the Theruvath Mosque which is in the centre of the town. An important local celebration takes place every year in commemoration of the arrival of Malik Ibn Dinar. The Uroos attract pilgrims from all over India.
